The Greatness of Gary Contributor Guidelines

We’re building a storytelling platform that celebrates Gary, Indiana—its history, creativity, and resilience. Every article, image, and feature should reveal the greatness that has always lived here and inspire readers to see Gary and its people with renewed pride.

All GoGary stories should align with one or more of our three editorial pillars:

People – Stories that celebrate individuals from Gary who have made an impact—past, present, or emerging. These are personal narratives of excellence, perseverance, and pride.

Places – Features that explore the landmarks, neighborhoods, and spaces that shape Gary’s identity, from historic roots to future potential.

4. Writing Guidelines

Length: 600–1,000 words for feature articles; 300–500 words for short profiles or reflections.

Structure: Strong lead, clear subheads, smooth transitions, and a closing that ties back to the theme of greatness or resilience.

Sourcing: Verify all facts. Cite credible sources, and provide links or references for historical details.

Quotes: Use direct quotes from interviews or public sources when possible. Attribute clearly.

Formatting: Submit in Google Docs or Word, using plain text formatting (no styling).
5. Image & Media Requirements

6. Ethics & Representation

Fact before flair. Accuracy is sacred.

7. Submission Process

Approval: We’ll confirm fit and offer editorial direction if accepted.

Editing: Our editorial team may revise for clarity, tone, or accuracy before publication.
8. Rights & Payment

Contributors retain copyright to their work but grant GoGary the right to publish and promote it across digital and print platforms.
